Laminates, Fiberglass, Vellum
Cherry Tree Design offers many facing options to complement your specific shoji and décor style. Choose from vinyl-backed paper, fiberglass, paper laminated between acrylic or plexi-product, or a custom facing of your choice. In general, laminates provide more visual privacy, whereas encapsulated papers are more translucent, allowing additional light.
Please note that density of material does not determine translucence factor.
Laminated papers give a puncture resistance while retaining the paper’s natural texture and warmth. Authentic papers and rice paper have been bonded to a heavy vinyl backing to add strength and durability to the papers. This allows the transmission of light while providing strength and durability for everyday use. These materials can be easily dusted but are not washable. All of our facings are easily replaceable due to our removable back grid.
Encapsulated Washable Facings
These papers are sandwiched between two layers of a plexi-product in our unique encapsulating process, giving the fine look of traditional shoji with added durability. These facings are washable with a damp cloth.
