Extreme Makeover: Home Edition sent the Byers family to Hilton Head, NC for vacation and busily worked to build a brand new healthy home where Boey and her family could enjoy a safe, clean environment. Cherry Tree Design lighting and shoji was used in the master bedroom. The 3 panels of 94” shoji positioned behind the bed created an artful and stunning headboard. Upon seeing her new bedroom, the mother commented, “It has been my dream for years to have a space for me and my husband. Our old home was so chaotic. Now we walk into this beautiful Zen-like retreat where we can just relax and breathe.”

Seven-year-old Jenessa Byers, affectionately known as Boey, was diagnosed in 2006 with pediatric cancer. She beat it once, but was recently informed that the cancer returned. Before her diagnosis, the Byers family bought a fixer-upper home that they planned to renovate. But after Boey’s diagnosis, their priorities shifted and they didn’t have the time or money for renovations. The home was filled with mold, toxins, exposed wiring and a dirty heating system.
